I am Zehra, a busy mum of two boys, a wine lover, computer engineer, pole fitness enthusiast and women advocate. I am passionate about giving an opportunity to Turkish women and let them have a financial independence through Beadzy.
Beadzy's story began in 2019 when I was exploring one of those summer night bazaars in Turkey. These big bazaars hold hundreds of different stalls from clothing to food, handmade jewellery to little souvenirs. I am a big jewellery lover myself, was in awe and could not help admiring all these amazing handcrafted items. I then started having conversations with the women and learned more about the stories behind their journey.
Although crafting is traditionally part of Turkish culture, the last few years due to the economical struggle, many women especially housewives, started learning various crafting skills through free courses provided by municipalities and selling their incredible work of art in order to support their families.
My inspiration to bring these beautiful items to Australia and introducing the handcrafted artisan jewellery with all Australian jewellery lovers while I was supporting the makers directly and ethically was the beginning of beadzy’s birth story.
In each individual product you will see the maker's profile and get an idea of who these strong, talented women are. Beadzy is not just a shop but a platform to support women. I hope that in this industrial, fast manufactured era, when you are wearing one of our necklaces (which takes a minimum of three days to make with thousands of seed beads!), or one of our earrings that has been beaded with a tiny needle, you might remember that you are connected with a woman living in a small town of Turkey who put their love into that special piece.
I hope you love beadzy as much as I do.
